About Lois Greifer
Lois Greifer, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist with over 20 years experience in the practice of psychotherapy. Dr. Greifer earned her Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Clinical Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. During her graduate training, she externed at Montefiore Hospital’s Child and Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Departments, and interned at The Postgraduate Center for Mental Health’s Child and Adult Clinics. After completing her doctorate with honors, she pursued additional supervised training in psychotherapy at The Fifth Avenue Center for Counseling and Psychotherapy.
Since 1989, Dr. Greifer has been in private practice, working with a broad range of clients with many different issues. Dr. Greifer works exclusively with adults. However, her training in child development and psychology helps to inform her work with adult clients who are interested in exploring their childhood experiences. Additionally, her knowledge of childhood disorders makes her particularly able to address the unique parenting concerns of mothers and fathers with special needs children.
Dr. Greifer has furthered her education and training during the many years she has been in private practice. Since 1999, she has participated in a weekly professional study group, led by a senior psychoanalyst, which focuses on discussing contemporary writings in the theory and practice of psychotherapy, and applying the material to real-life clinical work. She has studied couples therapy at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, and Focusing (an experiential approach to healing and growth) at The Focusing Institute.
Dr. Greifer enjoys providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples and groups. She also enjoys providing clinical supervision to new-career psychologists and social workers, as she likes to help beginning clinicians develop their own voice and viewpoint as therapists.
